Gold Coast Bison believes in sustainable ranching and has established a close working relationship on Diamond Mountain Ranch with owners Jeff and Cindy Miller. Their ranching technique follows careful grazing practices that actually improves their land over time. The Millers are mentoring Gold Coast Bison on their sustainable ranching practices to help us reach our dream to own a sustainable ranch and continue the growth of our herd.
What is sustainable ranching?
- Meeting our present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs.
- Making conscious choices that sustain the quality of our region's landscape and way of life.
We choose to raise our bison as free range grazers. Grazing triggers increased plant growth, especially of non-bushy species that help prevent erosion. High nitrogen manure and urine provide fertilizer and water, which also helps to boost plant growth. Large herds of constantly migrating bison kept the open range in good condition for centuries. Our bison, with our careful management and rotational grazing practices provide a similar ecological function to Diamond Mountain Ranch's pastures.
